Dimensional Letters
What are dimensional letters?
Ever wonder what those letters on the front of a strip mall are called? The broad term would be dimensional lettering. There are several individual products available that will fall under this important category of signs.
One of the most common products is Channel Lettering. This is the type of lettering that is usually contains a metal or plastic case that is 2 or more inches deep. It is then capped with a plastic cover. In many cases the channel will contain some form of light source that will illuminate each letter individually. The lighting within these letters is typically neon or the more recent type of lighting, LED.
Another common type of dimensional letter is known as a formed plastic letter. These letters are typically not back lit and feature an attractive molded shape. They are typically completely constructed of plastic and mounted to a wall or other surface with studs, pads and glue.
The third type of dimensional lettering we will discuss is known as trim cap lettering. In many cases this type of lettering is confused with channel lettering. It looks almost the same, the big difference being there is no channel for lighting. A channel letter will have a completely self contained box for the letter to cap. A trim cap letter simply has a shinny edge glued to the sides of the lettering to give it depth. A trim cap style letter is considerably less expensive than a channel letter. The major draw back is that it is not internally illuminated. It is installed the same way you install a formed plastic letter, using studs, pads and glue.
The last type of dimensional lettering we will discuss is a plain and simple acrylic cut letter. These are typically about 1/8” thick and are glued directly to a surface.
All of these letters are available in a variety of fonts and colors. They are an excellent choice for a professional application. Just Contact us and we will have one of our top notch customer service representative’s contact you.
